Previous Year Paper Questions(NET/JRF-FORENSIC SCIENCE)

 1.      The cuticle, outer zone of hair, consists of-

  1. Hemoglobin
  2. Collagen
  3. Myosin
  4. Keratin

ANSWER-4

2.      The slurry explosives are based on-

  1. Nitrocellulose
  2. Nitroglycerine
  3. Ammonium nitrate
  4. Potassium chlorate

ANSWER-3

EXPLANATION

Slurry explosive/water gel

·         It is an aqueous solution of an inorganic oxidizer gelled with a carbonaceous gelling agent.

·         These explosives consist of an inorganic oxidizer such as ammonium nitrate, or for better density control or sensitivity, mixtures of ammonium with sodium or calcium nitrate, gelled with a natural polysaccharide such as guar gum. Additional crystalline oxidizer and fuel is suspended in the gel matrix. Other ingredients may be added as fuels, sensitizers(enhance intiation), stabilizers, etc.

·         Physical characteristics and composition of typical slurries and emulsions, combined with a systematic analytical approach, are used for the characterization and discrimination of intact gel/slurry and emulsion explosives.

3.      Cherry-red discoloration of blood is due to-

  1. Oxyhemoglobin
  2.  Red hemoglobin
  3.  Carboxyhemoglobin
  4.  Cyanometh hemoglobin

ANSWER-3

4.      Takayama test, ferrous iron from hemoglobin reacts with pyridine to produce _____ crystals.

  1. Red rhombic
  2. Red feathery

  4. Green feathery

ANSWER-2

5.      The first double-base propellant, used as smokeless powder, was invented by Alfred Nobel in 1888 by gelatinization of nitrocellulose with-

  1. Diphenylamine
  2. Picrite
  3. Nitroglycerine
  4. Ether-alcohol mixture

ANSWER-3

6.      Battery cup is associated with which of the following?

  1. Shotgun cartridge
  2. Rim-fire cartridge
  3. Centre-fire rifle cartridge
  4. Pin-fire cartridge

ANSWER-1

EXPLANATION

Battery cup

·         Primers for modern shotshells have an additional part; the battery cup supports & adds strength to the primer.

·         It is made of copper, brass, or copper-plated steel.

·         The shotshell anvil is larger than that of a rifle/handgun primer anvil.

·         The anvil is a flat plate mounted perpendicular to the cup.

·         Its leading edge rests against the inside of the battery cup.

·         The battery cup is hollow and holds a significant volume.

·         It is important to prevent finely granulated propellants from entering the cup.

·         If this happens, the added pressure inside the cup at firing can damage the bolt or breechface of a shotgun.

·         Thus, the opening (flashhole) through which flame and gas will pass is sealed with a thin, combustible paper or plastic disk before seating the anvil.

7.      Green color code on time pencil indicates that the explosion will occur after approximately

  1. 30 minutes
  2.  5 hours
  3.  12 hours
  4.  30 hours

ANSWER-2

EXPLANATION

Time pencil

The period of delay is indicated by the colour of the safety strip. The timings given are for 59° Fahrenheit (15°celcius). The delay varies according to temperature. At high temperatures the delays are considerably shortened and vice versa.
